Shi Er Rou Fa (Twelve Soft Methods)

-Interpretation

(而 = Er = and)

1) Jie Shou Er Gun Shou (截手而滚手)

When the opponent's hand blocks (Jie Shou = intercepting hand), then bypass his block with a rolling movement (Gun Shou = rolling hand).

2) Jian Gang Er Hui Shou (見剛而囘手)

Bring about certain (counter)offensive actions of the opponent (Jian Gang = perceive hard) in order to exploit them in a planned way for counterattacks (Hui Shou = counterattack).

3) Ke Shou Er Ru Shou (磕手而入手)

When blocking an opponent's attack (Ke Shou = Tapping Hand), attack with the other hand (Ru Shou = Entering Hand).

4) Lou Shou Er Jin Shou (摟手而進手)

When the opponent pulls the practitioner (Lou Shou = Pulling Hand), take advantage of the momentum and strike (Jin Shou = Advancing Hand).

5) Kai Shou Er Die Shou (開手而叠手)

When the opponent displaces the attack outwards (Kai Shou = opening hand), pick up his block with a rolling movement (Die Shou = folding hand).

6) Pu Shou Er Jin Shou (撲手而進手)

When the opponent pushes the practitioner down (Pu Shou = leaping hand), e.g. with a hammer fist, lever, elbow, twist his arm(s) and push them down with a lever (Jin Shou = advancing hand).

7) Tiao Shou Er Ru Shou (挑手而入手)

When the opponent pushes the practitioner's arm upwards (Tiao Shou = Lifting Hand), push this arm further upwards and strike it towards the opponent's body (Ru Shou = Entering Hand).

8) Zhan Shou Er Po Shou (粘手而破手)

When the opponent grabs the practitioner's arm (Zhan Shou = Clinging Hand), apply the counter wrist lock (Po Shou = Breaking Hand).

9) Cai Shou Er Ru Shou (採手而入手)

When the opponent grabs (Cai Shou = Picking Hand), control his arm and apply the elbow lock (Ru Shou = Entering Hand).

10) Gun Shou Er Lou Shou (棍手而漏手)

When your opponent blocks an attack (Gun Shou = Stick Hand), control the blocking arm and apply an expiring strike (Lou Shou).

11) Ru Shou Er Tou Shou (入手而偷手)

When the opponent wants to attack (Ru Shou = entering hand), counter before his attack can arrive (Tou Shou = stealing hand).

12) Zhi Tong Er Gou Shou (直统而勾手)

Grab and control straight punch (Zhi Tong = straight punching) of opponent with hook hand (Gou Shou = hook hand), can be combined with other techniques.
